Thanks guys. Y’all have convinced me to park it and start pulling it apart.
When I looked at their website, I was surprised that the reconditioned diffs from Ashcroft are as reasonable as they are given the heft of the metal and the precision involved.
Couldn’t agree more. Got mine a week or two ago. Very well packaged such that there was negligible chance of damage. I am not ready to install it yet as I have the whole headliner to recover first (with the material I also bought from Scott which is perfectly matched to OEM material). But that...
Not doing further damage if it’s just a bearing is why I want to immediately pull it into the garage and start pulling things apart. But if the gear teeth are on their way out and I’ll neeed a whole new diff, I don’t want to waste my time inspecting.
So this is actually the impetus of my initial question, how worried should I be?. At some point, it’s going to fail. Are we talking definitely going to grenade within 5k and I’ll lose all forward momentum and ability to move or more likely begin feeling rough transitions and a slow deterioration...

I used closed-end 5/32 Fabory rivets. They all sat down in the channel pretty well. As to the window frame, I assume it's factory. It was identical to what Mike shows on his videos and the way he...
What is the trick for getting the rubber filler strip into the rear sliding window frame (the finisher that covers the rivets)?
This weekend I pulled the window frame to replace the seal between the two panes. Everything went fairly smoothly but fitting that filler strip is hands down the most...
You ever look up and realize you're playing a rich man's sport and think, "Maybe you can't afford this hobby..."
I have.
Twice actually - once while I was billfishing and the second time about 3 minutes ago.
