Replaced the brake pipe. Flushed the system and changed the fluid. That's on the credit side.
On the debit side, while I was under there I noticed the hole in the muffler and huge rot in the pipe after the muffler. Yeah, it has seemed loud lately...
Thanks. I "followed" the instructions, so all good.
I had two liters in hand, but ended up using less than one.
One issue I did have: Rear drivers side has a clog. Only a small bit of fluid came out, opened it up enough that it was actually leaking at the bleeder. Don't think I let any air...
All the pats are here (thanks Zack!) and I'm ready to replace the broken pipe on my caliper.
I have my new Motive Products power bleeder, ready to go. I'm doing this alone today, so I don't have a "partner" to pump the brakes. But I can follow up with that later if this doesn't do the job.
I...

Thanks. I've used that before. It's the getting all the bubbles out part where I struggle. I think I have it right, but then it's a soft pedal, and I have to do it two or three times...
I'm at WA141206, so I think I'm good. THANKS!
Not 100% sure I have the talent to make my own. I've had three brake failures in my life (one on an Oldsmobile where the vacuum system died, and two on this Rover, a cracked caliper on the right side and now this on the left). Fortunately, in all...
I have the 300 TDI (1998), so from what you said it should be metric. But yes, 7/16, which is imperial. I know the calipers were different between RHD and LHD (see previous posts from August), we'll see on the lines. What could possibly go wrong, right?
Video on the caps makes sense, but...
Didn't make the call because by the time I got it all apart and cleaned up, it was just about 5PM on the east coast, so I'll call tomorrow.
It looks like the brake pipe from the flexible hose to the caliper cracked. For all I know, I kinked it two years ago when I put in new swivel balls, and...
What did I do to my Defender? Well, yesterday I did something to generate a huge brake fluid leak on the left front side. Today I get to pull it apart to see just what is going wrong. Zack, you'll be getting a phone call soon. I'm hoping it's just blown seals on the pistons, or maybe a leak...
When I replaced my windscreen gasket, I took the time to install the glass with the embedded defogger. Works a treat! I can usually get the passenger side warm, but there's definitely a leak through the steering column that makes it chilly!
Thanks. Bummer. I guess they just stay cold in the UK. I'll figure something out some day! Trying to avoid a separate Webasto type heater. I think maybe step two will be pulling the old, looking at the blower, etc. Step one of course is re-doing the gaskets on the vents. Difficult to get...
Just once, I'd like to remove the oil filter without spilling all over the transfer case, propshaft, tie rod, etc. At least I can be sure I have good rust prevention there!
