All the parts are still available but not for sale at this time. It was only ever for sale as a complete package.
Rest assured the chasssis is not stolen. The chassis is from the silver truck in the picture above that was legally imported by me. It's really a mute point though as it is not...
Having almost finished a from scratch build of a 110 that has taken nearly 5 years to complete I have a great respect for the guys who are pioneering these conversions. My truck is a 200tdi with new chassis, new puma body, new wiring etc. The only thing not new is the drive train. I have...
When I built my tub, I built it from new factory parts so the only piece that needed to be welded into place was number 13 above. You would have a lot of welding with what you have shown. I drilled the holes into piece 13 and then he just filled the holes with weld. There was a little metal...
When I build my tub I took it to an experienced aluminum welder and had him weld it. Even then it was tricky because of the thin metal. He took his time and it turn out great. We drilled holes where the spot weld should be and he then filled the holes with weld. Aluminum spot welders are hard...
I sent Kevin a email the other day. Mounts are going to be roughly $400. $2000 for the 8HP70 to LT230 adapter. $1460 for engine to trans adapter. I did not ask on the stumpy. The motor is $9275 with my state sales tax and the current incentive. I did not get the cost on the ECM for the 8HP70. It...
I can see that it would if you are transplanting which most folks will be. I'm starting with a chassis and building up from there. So no real problems for me except a $5000 adapter plate. I would have a modern engine mated to a modern transmission that would bolt directly to the chassis I'm...
Well next time you are making mounts add an extra set in and I'll buy them. My setup will be the same as the one you are building now. I am happy to pay the the engineering work you have already done. I am just not that savvy and don't have the equipment to perform those feats of engineering.
Doug, does changing the fore aft position change the basic shape of the mount or just the position of where the mount goes? With that said the truck you are currently building seems like it would be popular way to go with 6L80E and Marks adapter. Would that be something you would make a run of...
Motor Mounts
Are any of the builders out there going to sell a weld in motor mount for the Defender? I hate recreating the wheel on something like this.
I would go that way because my chassis is already set up for MT82. I can mount it which lines everything up for the motor to go in. Cut out the old motor mounts weld in new motor mounts and I'm done fitting the engine, transmission, and transfer case. I only have to buy one adapter. It fits...
I'm not sure the defenders have had the problems that the mustangs had. There were some minor problems in the early years, but I don't read about many problems in the later years.
I have thought that the MT82 would be a good choice. Axis will make a one off for $5000 but obviously the price goes down the more that are ordered. I have a source for MT82 defender takeouts is anyone is interested. Seems like ?850-950 then shipping. If I go with the cummins this is the way...
