Transfer Case Serial # Decoding

Can someone help me identify this transfer case? The numbers don't seem to align with any of the references I can find online. Assuming it's an LT230...

No other stampings are present. I'm trying to figure out what's inside to calculate gear ratios.

Thanks in advance!

Nawh, that's some rebuild code stamped in by some off the wall military workshop or utility.
I had one like that in the shop that turned out to be a 1.6, but had to drop the bottom cover and count teeth to figure it out.

Have you looked on the other side of the box yet ?
Ya, quickly but couldn't find anything. Going to look around some more. I've heard there may be a 3rd location in which it could be stamped too.

Bummer! It's an 88 127 double cab hicap, so it was likely owned by a utility company originally. I think maybe SEB due to the original light green (Keswick?) color.

So, I've scoured this thing and can't seem to find any other numbers. It looks as if the face seen in the photo was possibly machined down and then engraved.

What's the process look like for opening it up, counting the teeth, etc.

Or, alternatively, can I lock the CDL and turn the driveshaft and count the revolutions?

Thanks!

you can just drive it too and use the ashcroft gearing calculator and a tach to figure it out .

The truck doesn't currently have a tach.

What's the easiest way for me to figure this out? I'd like to regear at my diffs but without knowing my t-case ratio makes that tough.

Thanks for all the help.

disassemble and count ( i have no idea how to do that) or buy an cheap $11 ebay tach , measure tires and enter it into the ratio calculator and get your answer. THere may be a way buy turning the wheels , but i have no clue

what engine /trans ?

also no real reason to regear unless you are doing SERIOUS wheeling. just changing the tcase gets most people what they need for high gears

I'll be running 33.5'' tires (255/85/16) and plan on doing serious wheeling but not quite big rock crawling.

Engine is a 4.0L GEMS V8 and trans is a ZF auto.

Unfortunately it's going to be impossible to tell by the ratio calculator with an automatic. Maybe @Red90 knows a secret
