Our big box from LaSalle arrived today. It'll be a bit before I tackle our headliner installation, so for now, I'll just post my new favorite pic.

Could just be the angle of the pictures but it looks like whomever cut the windows into your van sides used the rear sliders from pickup cabs. Rather than fitting nearly flush like normal sliders, the rear frames protrude a good inch or so. Is the fixed portion on all of your windows in the rear and the forward section the slider ?

Ah yes, our lovely sliders. I am not sure of their back story, but they are complete piles of poo. Stick out an inch, leak, rattle and are just plain ugly.

I have a new set of flush hardtop sliders from Bearmach waiting to get tinted, (tint shops just opened back up here this week), then that project will added to the installation list.

I’ve been tied up with work over the past few weeks, so Drago has been enjoying a little rest.

Pretty excited to receive a bit of fun art today:

We just returned from our first big road trip with Drago. 9 days of touring around the Olympic Peninsula here in WA. Just a few minor hiccups with Drago, but he did great on the trip.

We had a pretty big push the weeks leading up to the trip with wrapping up several projects. The largest was finally installing our new rear sliders. The replacements from Bearmach were 1/4“ bigger all the way around, so I needed to spend a few nights having fun with my jigsaw, (so scary). The end result is nice, quiet, non-leaking windows on our trip. I decided to use black oxide hardware, which immediately showed signs of surface oxidation after the first wet night, new stainless hardware is on the way.

Here are a few of my favorite images from the trip:

How many miles was your trip? MPG? How'd your truck do on the highway temp wise and at what speed?
We did about 800 miles, it was nice and leisurely week. We avoided the highways when possible but he hung in there when it was necessary. Drago tops out at about 67. He gets a bit squirrelly up there, so I need to see if the alignment is out, or if I make an adjustment to the steering box. We bought an infrared thermometer to monitor things and the t-case seemed to get the hottest at 161. I do have a pretty good leak from the output shaft, so we monitored fluid levels frequently during the trip.

One of the fuel line connectors loosened during the trip, causing a pretty good diesel leak. Luckily we built a decent tool kit for traveling and it was an easy fix.

We built a quick and cheap prototype of the rear camp buildout, this has helped a ton as we learn how we ultimately will use the space. I hope to dive into the final build this winter.

All and all, so happy with him. It’s amazing how often people stop us to ask questions.

I’ve been a little quiet here, but have been plugging away on projects. New gauges, volt meter, speedo and VDO analog clock installed, LaSalle headliner installed. Finish line project was retrimming the seats and Wifey was so excited with everything that we have completed over the past few months, she purchased the retrim kit.

The next phase is starting the final rear buildout this fall.

Started here yesterday morning:
