Dash dock mounting pics

Since these are NLA I'm thinking about making one so looking for a favor. I can't get a good visual from the pics posted on SDO. Can someone that has one please post pics of how its mounted on the ends and in the ashtray? I'm particularly curious what the silver box looks like and how it attaches to the bar. Any other angles would be appreciated. I know there a bunch of people bought these years ago. Thanks in advance!

Thanks but I can’t quite see how the mounting brackets attach to the bar. It only shows front and side view not back and under the bar. I think the middle bracket is welded to the bar.

so the brackets we simple welded on strap and tabs with a 90 degree and screw holes. it came with longer screws. The center was supported with a U shaped metal strap (welded again) and is affixed through the ashtray bottom with a bolt. you have to remove the ash tray cover. I used it for an iPad, and a phone and a gps Offroad and it was solid. Everything was welded, but is pretty simple stuff. I helped on the original one, and supplied mine to Lav to use as a prototype for a new one (the original guy hasn't been heard from in a while.... that I know of).. the new one is suppose to come with and without the center kick out.. I didn't think it was needed.

Thanks for the help! Yeah, the original guy never responded to anyone’s communications from what I read. Hopefully Jason has plans to sells soon before I start experimenting haha!

Hi guys,

I'm the "original guy" that was making these, selling them, and also supplying them to Lav.

I want to apologize for being AWOL and explain why I stopped making the docks:

1) The fabricator I was using, didn't want to make them for me anymore, and it was proving to be difficult to find another fabricator that would make these at a reasonable cost. The docks were selling for $170.00 and I didn't think anyone would want to pay upward of $200 for one.
2) Although Lav and I had sold over 60 of them, interest was waning, and it took me quite a while to sell the last two remaining pieces I had on hand.

Please note that I'm just an enthusiast like you guys, and this was a side "gig" for me, to help me finance my toy at the time, a 1986 D110 (sold to a fellow forum member).

We now come to the reason why I'm responding to this post:

1) A friend and fellow Defender owner (Chris B.) reached out to me earlier today, asking me if I was still making these, informing me that a forum member here was inquiring about the docks
2) Strangely enough, two other Defender owners had reached out to me just last week through Facebook, to ask if I had any in stock, as I was in the process of finding a new fabricator (I did), and had reached out to Lav asking him if he was still interested in selling these.

It seems as if suddenly, there is renewed interest, so I'm letting you guys know that I already have 15 being made as we speak, and they should be ready in 3 weeks (or less), and if you're interested, please let me know.

I'm sensing from the posts above that some of you think I'm flake, but I'm here to tell you that I'm not. I think and hope that Lav (who is very respected on this site and elsewhere) can vouch for my honesty.

Sincerely - Samer

Very cool. I know I. The last couple years I have read several people on both sites that were interested in buying them So there is certainly interest.

I'm interested. I was just putside measuring to build one ... this sounds easier ;)

As I get close to finishing production which should be in about 3 weeks, I will contact you and confirm your interest. No to toot my own horn, but these are great, and a proven concept. I've sold well over 60 of them to Defender owners across the States.

samar - can I get one without the middle kick out (just a straight bar) this time?
Rlynch, what was your feedback/experience with the kick out? Was it not usable and just in the way? Just curious what your thoughts were bc if the kickout is not really usable and just in the way then I too would prefer a straight bar. Thanks!

I personally did not use it, I typically mount the iPad to the right side of center and the phone near the center. a spot transmitter is on the far left near the drivers window.
