Windscreen wipers not working - audible power draw heard

1993 row left hand drive 110, the front windscreen wipers don’t come on. Never have worked since ownership (2 years). When I turn them on, I can hear an audible power draw from the fuel pump that’s running. Turn them off and I hear it stop drawing power. Any best guess on where to start given I know it’s at least drawing power when switched on?

You mean the sound the fuel pump makes changes when you turn on the wiper switch? So does the battery voltage drop when you turn on the switch? It's just a guess, but it sounds like maybe the motor or the mechanism is bound up. Easy to check the motor once you get to it; getting to it is a pain if you have A/C.

Mine was like that in the Perentie when I got it...well, no change in fuel pump sound, it doesn't have one.

After tracing power through the switch, took off the dash covering bots and found power at the motor...that was a bit warm.

A whack with the hickory handled special service tool, and it's still working 3 years later :)

thanks to both above ... yes, voltage drops slightly (as it's pulling power away from the aux / fuel pump running), washers work also. So I believe the switch and stalk, and likely the relay are all fine. Probably the motor, and it does have A/C. Sure wouldve been nice to simply put it up by the firewall in the engine bay

Two stripped gears in the wiper boxes?
My vote is for frozen spindles on wheel boxes, cable can't turn. Have had that on 6 or 8, otherwise motor would spin if they were stripped. Motor brushes are trying to spin ( the load he is sensing) but gear driven cable can't turn.
Cheap part, pita job
