Gutter Kit Pics

Hi All,

Can anyone post some gutter kit pics?
I’ve finally got my 90 back and Badger GKII top is on. Been gone a long time and now finally got 90 back and can enjoy it again.
But I have a pretty large gap in the B pillar that I assume isn’t right. I would think the corners should be tight together? Or is this gap normal? I feel like there are some gaps that are not correct.

Also, does the fabric of the top tuck into the gutter kit on the horizontal rail above the door?

Thanks all,
Peter

your door seal is installed incorrectly. it should fit fully into the corner of the gutter kit.

it also looks like the gutter kit is installed to tightly to the door. there needs to be some room for the door seal to squish.

yes the top sits in the horizontal channel above the door. if the canvas was tight to fit, thoroughly wet it and try again, then let it dry fully installed and do not touch it for a week.

Thanks!
Yeah I thought the seal wasn’t correct as well. I didn’t put the top on. I’ll have to loosen things up and see if I can get the gutter kit to come together more in the corner. The installer made some comment about the gutter kit being hard to get in. That they needed pull on the windshield to get it to go.
The doors themselves aren’t hung very well and are exaggerating the seal issue.
I assume the gutter kit would make a tight fit at the corner and not have a big gap. I don’t see a lot of play in the bolts to close that gap though. I can see some horizontal play left, but if it’s vertical that’s needed, I’m not sure how to achieve that.

if they needed to move the windshield to install the gutter kit, either your defender is completely out of whack (accident damage?) or they simply don't know what they are doing.

My fiberglass top seemed to fit with no issues. Anyone have a pic of theirs on the B pillar?

Peter you can always give me a call with any questions or issues with the Badger gutter kit and top installation. I just looked at the photos of the gutter /door seal install and think that is was poorly done. I have never had problems with installing the gutter kit on customers vehicles. The problems are very simple to fix.

I made my own brackets. Seals nice and tight...

No that is totally normal.. You can adjust the defender windshield easily.. hell you have to move the windshield to square the doors on a station wagon.. totally normal.. I've had a badger II with Gutter kit for about 13 years now.. comes off when I throw the hard top on (adjust windshield there too..)

your top fits nice and tight, thats great.. oh and I start with putting the door seal corner you are showing in place first and then working the seal from there. the GK needs to line up with the door seam (mostly anyway.. you have to play with the adjustment.

Made some good progress lately. Gutter kit adjusted and doors adjusted. I also replaced the strikers with the proper parts and not the “custom” job that was mounted way too low. I found these 3” Jensen speakers that fit pretty well and were shallow mounting when using their extra “nut” as a spacer.

Need to do a little more cleaning to the interior and then I will put the top back on.
Interesting note, the factory bolt length doesn’t work with the SP door reproductions. They are a little short and won’t grab the nylon of the lock nut. You could try and go with a slim nut, but I found some other torx head stainless bolts.

i really like that you bought lift up handle doors instead of push button. looks much more appropriate on a soft top.
Thanks! That’s what I was looking for. It certainly made the whole process more complicated but they look really good. I got the doors from @Jrose609. Initially I was just going to redo the bottom frame but ended up getting the full door frame and skin reproductions. Also new door cards. But the unobtainium door latches are working just fine. The innards are also the same.

Much better! Adjusted the gutter kit and door hinges and we are looking pretty good now! Might need the knee trick in the passenger door but it’s pretty close to sealing completely. A little gap at the top. I checked the bulkhead and I’m good there but I was hoping to be able to lift the doors a bit more at the rear side to get the body line a little better. But I think these reproductions are close but not exact. As also seen in the door latch area where the latch itself isn’t centered without expanding out the mounting holes. That difference is about what I had to come up with in a shim. I used UHMW black plastic and hand planed it down to the correct thickness.

Looks great--who makes that rear bumper? Sort of looks like what Rovertym did...

Thanks! It’s a Rockware bumper. With the Jerry can holders (2) behind spare and a hi lift mount on the right. Although it interferes with the 94 square tail lights. I think the round ones would clear fine. It doesn’t touch it by much and a bump stop on the bracket would probably cure it. But I haven’t gotten to that point yet.
