Let me help you buy/sell a defender!

Hi,
My name is Henry Drury, and I'm an auto-broker.
Let me rephrase that. I'm not a salesman. I simply take all the time and work out of buying/selling a car.

The legality of Defenders in the US is something they are notorious for, and makes looking for a good, solid purchase difficult.
This is where I come in. Whether you're buying or selling, you likely have a full time job, a family, maybe even school as well. You don't have the time to search, evaluate, check the legality and negotiate on a car. So give me the details, and sit back while I take care of everything.
To ensure your car is legal, I purchase a HPI report (a UK carfax), which gives a few details on the car, and then speak directly with Land Rover UK's heritage department to ensure that their records match the VIN given, and make sure every detail matches up.
On top of this, if the car is local, I inspect it myself to check the designated VIN plates stamped onto the car, checking to see if they've been altered.

Once the car's legality is proven, I will negotiate the price as best I can.
In summary, you can relax and sit back all the way from searching to purchasing the car, or throughout the entire selling process. At the end of this, I take a small fee which value is based on the amount of work that goes into the sale. This fee then goes into paying my college fees and supporting my career as a racing driver.

Please get in touch at hjdrury@outlook.com, and we can arrange a call to discuss your case!

Henry,
How does pulling a HPI and talking with Gaydon/or Heritage dept have anything to do with, or assure in any way, the vetting of a vehicles US legality , for which you indicate they are notorious ? All for supporting your college and motorsport endeavors but not understanding how reaching out to UK sources for information on vehicles already in the US has value for most stateside buyers or sellers.

The primary worry with supposedly legal cars is that the VIN has been replaced. Therefore matching all details of the HPI report with the Heritage dept should ensure that they are the same vehicle, and not a swapped VIN/frame.

LOL.

Well aware mate, ready for the shitshow.

Also, I love how you go from needing advice on selling a Defender to being the guy that everyone can trust in less than five months.

Never said I was an expert. there's a market for defenders, and a market for my service as they're difficult cars to buy. Came here for info back then because defender's are a unique case compared to any other cars I've sold.
I've educated myself extensively in the time since then, and I'm looking for more experience with these cars. Only way to do that is to sell more of them.

Thats just it , any information gleaned is based on the VIN only, and while sometimes interesting (I like reading the DVLA MOT annual safety inspection reports) has little relevance to the ability to determine if the vehicle is all original- which it is not required to be. A frame swap once through US Customs is completely legal and done daily by every Rover restoration shop in the US. Vehicles with new chassis actually are desirable and worth more money. The original chassis is only important @ the time of US importation.

US Customs is very well versed on what to look for and anything that has entered since early 2013 has received considerable scruitiny.

I think you need to learn more about the process, how it works, the players involved, and the vehicles themselves, before conceiving a business model
based on offering considerable expertise, taht you dont have, and that is only gained via copious experience.

For instance vehicles are inspected both on the UK side, before departure, as well as by US Customs on entry. Google US Customs Operation Atlantic as a starting point.

You do realize there are more of these trucks coming in from the rest of the world than are coming in from the UK ? There are no HPI reports available outside the UK ?

I've imported over 900 of these trucks over the past decade. I help clients who ask vet the authenticity of their vehicles to assure a smooth import.
The issues with illegal imports is now 5 yrs past, so again unless you plan to limit yourself only to vehicles that entered, from the UK, prior to Spring 2013 ,and have not been restored or rebuilt on a galvanized chassis, talking to Gaydon/Heritage and or puling an HPI have no value for your US clients.

The only way to “make” what “money” there is to be made by these trucks is to very carefully buy and sell. Buy for a good price, put some cash into it, sell it for a bit more. You simply won’t make money trying to do what you are trying to do. The people who would pay you for the service are the type of people who have enough money to spend that they aren’t going to worry about paying you for this service.

I moved this thread to the misc section as there isn't an actual vehicle for sale.
