So whose building it for you?

Very good question, I am actually building it myself and commissioned someone to do it as I am starting a Custom Defender Restoration business that is more affordable to mortals like myself as opposed to the $100k+ that most places ask for to have quality work.

most builders/ restoration shops are looking to make HUGE profits as opposed to helping people get in to their dream truck.

I will be able to give quality and attention to details for much less than others....but I have to start with my own and see if it would work,

Most Rover shops are not getting rich and there are many places that would do that work at a decent price. Doing these rebuild properly involves huge amounts of labour.

I think some shops are really getting rich doing this here in the US.

Let me ask you or anyone seeing this thread.... what would a Defender cost to have as described above??

I need some numbers and I'll tell you what I could sell the car for:D

I think people were asking as there are more than a handful of what we will call "less than reputable shops" out there.

The cost to do that work is completely dependent on the quality of the work. A paint job can be $2000 or $20000. You are not showing much there. It is just a lipstick job. Make it look pretty but do not fully deal with corrosion protection nor rebuild the mechanicals. It is the flipper way.

What takes time and money but does little to help sell is pulling it apart. Gala coming all the steel. Coating everything well. Rebuilding the drivetrain and suspension properly.

What you list is $10000 to $30000 depending on how nice you want to do it.

I've seen $250k restorations close up. Sure it was good, but I struggle to see the value for money in something like that.

Some buy resto mods, but not really that crowd here. This isn’t a show car enthusiast board you will find here—for the most part this is a bloody knuckle forum. Let’s see your truck in 2019. Until then, if you have questions about the truck, let us know! Historically this hasn’t been a great “never done it but starting a new business flipping rovers” forum. We see it briefly from time to time, but a lot of us bash our knuckles regularly and know a NICE D110 restored, no rust, rebuilt truck isn’t a $40-50k truck. Offer that though, rebuilt drivetrain, galvy chassis, no oxidized doors, great bulkhead, great paint and you will have a market audience. Good luck with that. It is an exciting time waiting for a new truck though— so congrats!

Is that $10 to 30k include labor? if yes please sign me up to buy a 1994 D110 V8 with NO rust (masked or showing) from you as described above.

Yes it is a pretty exciting waiting for the truck and the good thing is that the bones of the donor truck are very good i.e no rust anywhere and mechanical work will be be done as well.
I am very excited to show it off on the next Expo East ( BTW, I am going to this one in November).

Riverhouse I’d argue has one of the most well balanced products you can find for the money. If you end up giving him a run for his money I will be shocked.

I am looking forward to shocking you as well as other members on NAS-ROW:D

Case in point see the link below to a car from Riverhouse for 59,000 EUR = $67,600
https://riverhousemini.com/inventory/848/

Keep in mind that my D110 is a V8 with New A/C and Roll Cage....

Really can
t wait to show off my baby

I couldn't agree with 1of40 more. Riverhouse products are a great balance and the workmanship is phenomenal. The math just doesn't work out on beating that price unless you're willing sacrifice something along the way. Take that truck you linked to as an example.

Starting Car: 12,500 Euro (if you want a decent solid starting place that's a ballpark mid-low figure in Europe. If Riverhouse purchased that car a few years prior to it's 25th birthday then maybe they could get it cheaper).

Transportation: 750 Euro just to get it to the shop assuming he purchased it from Western Europe - France or Spain

Inspection: If you follow the rule of not buying a truck without a hands-on you've got expense there either in a finders fee for an agent or going down yourself. 750 Euro

Disassembly and Paint: Riverhouse doesn't screw around with this. Frame off panel by panel repaint. For a truck like that I imagine that Riverhouse is paying 6,000 Euro. Factor in 2,000 Euro in labor for him to disassemble the truck and reassemble. I may be low here.

Suspension Rebuild: Everything is replaced down to zinc coated nuts and bolts. New brakes etc. 4,000 Euro. I may be low here too.

Mantec Swing Away: 500 Euro installed

New Puma Doors: 2,000 Euros

Rims & Tyres: 1,500 Euros

Engine Rebuild: 3,000 + 2000 in Labor to Install

Interior: 1,000 Front, 1,500 Rear, 750 jump-seats, 300 cubby, 350 for Dash

New Transmission: 600 Euro + 400 Install Labor

New Wiring Harness + New Lights + Labor: 1,500 Euro easy

Frame Cleaning, Rust Treatment, Painting: 1,500 Euro

New Grille: 450 Euro + 50 Install: 500 Euro

New Window Seals: 500 + 300 Labor: 800 Euro

New Rock Sliders: 500 Euros + 50 Labor Install: 550 Euro

New Premium Carpet Set Installed: 1000 Euro

Mud Dash: 250 Euro + 150 Labor: 400 Euro

Various Parts Common Parts Replacement: fluids, Fuel Tank, Lines, Wiper Motors, Door Locks, Door Seals, Speakers, Door Cards, Radiator, various hoses and lines. 3,500 Euro. This may seem high but Riverhouse doesn't leave anything questionable on a car before it leaves.

Misc Labor: 2,500. Reinstall work, taking parts to the paint shop and back, startup troubleshooting, seat and carpet installation.

That's 50,650 Euro. If Riverhouse is selling it for 59000 that 8,350 in profit or 16%. More than reasonable to run a business. Even if he's running 20% profit it's well deserved for the risk he takes buying 25 year old cars that had rust on them the day after they left the line.

If Riverhouse is making more than 20% they are making it on the front end by finding great Defenders at low cost. Again though that involves labor and building a reputation so people come to you.

It's going to be hard to beat but I really wish you the best of luck!

Who said anything about Euros?

any way.... Lets just wait until I can showcase the D110 and then we can talk numbers.

I will be going to Overland Expo East, is there anyone from here going?

You did. In your quote of Riverhouse's price. I'm not trying to bash you at all! I seriously wish you luck and hope you have fun doing what you want to do and make a few bucks too!

You asked for help with the value. I can't help with that, but for an interesting over-the-top truck, that is seriously cool! There are a number of personal preference things that I wouldn't do but from a limited experience outside point of view, it looks like a quality build!
