When to buy Genuine

More of these things are due to the brands being bought out and traded. Lucas for instance has been tossed around like a bean bag. Who knows what exists of the original.

They swivels are weird, because you would have thought they were made by GKN with the rest of the axles. Oh, I see, Dana bought the axle division of GKN in 95. Maybe they screwed up the British manufacturing.

I just bought what I thought where genuine panhard bushings ANR3410 from Atlantic British ($6 ea). What showed up were 2 britpart bushings which I could get for $0.70 from LR direct. There is practically no telling what I get anymore. I’ve even asked Justin who makes his parts, such as the door look mech and he said he didn’t know but probably britpart (2 months ago). Are they OEM? Yep. But not Genuine. Door mechanisms are one I want genuine but they can be upwards of $100 and I can get aftermarket for $7 from rock auto...

I shop from everyone. If I need assistance then I buy from those that give it to me. I used to by most my stuff from RDS because George knew his parts. Now I split a lot from AB, L8, RN etc but if I’m gonna end up with Britpart, then I’ll just go to LRDirect.

The other ones I know of this happening with were all from Worldpac.

Were they in a Genuine bag? Sounds like something just got screwed up with your order.

They were probably OEM ones supplied by Britpart. Does AB actually sell parts supplied from Land Rover?

OEM and Genuine are not the same thing, and usually are priced accordingly.

AB definitely sells Genuine parts. IIRC, they have a G after the part number. If it is a Genuine part, it should be in a Land Rover bag or box. I've bought a bunch of Genuine parts from them and RN.

Okay, The "G" suffix as used by most of the parts wholesalers indicated an OEM part. They normally use "LR" as a suffix for genuine parts sold by Land Rover. From what I can see, neither AB or RN are very clear on the source of their parts.

They were in the blue britpart bags. I kept them and I am not disparaging AB nor will I stop buying from them but I rarely purchase Britpart products. At least not bushings. So I?ll call in the future and verify brand. It didn?t have a G, but at $6 I?d expect better. If I want the shittiest, cheapest parts, I will pay the cheapest prices for them. But I don?t want to do that at all. Not for anything that is a pita to install.

The cheaper ones feel plasticky and not rubbery and generally don't fit as well it's hard to show a picture frankly.

Both times he(Chris - Rovertek) broke them, was driving the truck into a "wall"(rock ledge/ice wall at Romp). Even then, they still shouldn't break.

The axle in my 90 came from a D1 in a salvage yard. It hit something so hard that they radius arm is S shaped, but the ball, and even the wheel bearings, seem fine.

I'm reviving this thread because the general question in my mind just became a reality. I my fan pulley started sounding like a box of rocks last night, so I'm needing to buy a front cover. Bearmach? Allmakes? Britpart?

Which of these would you turn to first, in general, and for this specific part?
